UmanDiagnostics launched during spring 2008 its first diagnostic kit for research purposes on neurodegenerative diseases. The new assay, NF-light® (ELISA), detects one of the major cytoskeletal components of neuronal cells, neurofilament light. During several degenerative conditions this protein is released into the cerebrospinal fluid and reflects the activity of the disease, which is of value for diagnostic purposes and for establishing new therapeutic approaches.

Degenerative disorders of the brain are today and will in the future be even more abundant in an aging population. The diagnostic possibilities to early trace these devastating diseases, like multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and different types of dementia diseases are still under development and of significant importance if new treatment modalities will be available.
